How to Repurpose Your Podcast

Podcasts are perfect launch points for creating dozens of marketing assets without having to come up with a dozen fresh ideas.

With the right repurposing strategy, you can quickly go from 1 podcast episodes to multiple creative pieces that will help you attract a bigger audience, build your brand, and boost revenue opportunities.

A single podcast episode usually has enough content for a stand-alone blog post, an email newsletter, an infographic, multiple social media posts.

If you combine a few related episodes or a short podcast series, you’re primed and ready for a long-form ebook or guide that will provide 3 months worth of content (seriously!).

All you need is a value-packed podcast episode and a solid repurposing strategy to make it all happen.

Since you’re here, I’m guessing you either produce a podcast or are responsible for marketing a podcast in some way. So you know how much work it takes to develop a podcast, from coming up with topics and booking guests to recording and editing to gathering assets and everything in between.

Make the most of all that hard work that goes into producing a great podcast by creating awesome content pulled directly from each episode.

6 Ways to Repurpose Podcast Episodes

#1 Blog Post

Create a valuable blog post from each podcast episode. Start by getting a transcript of your episode (we often use Otter.ai). Next, do a quick cleanup to make sense of the raw transcript: reorganize your main themes, remove filler words (umms, ahhs, so, like, etc.), and create paragraphs and headers. From there, edit like hell to make it reader-friendly.

#2 YouTube Video

As the #2 search engine in the world, YouTube is a phenomenal place to republish your podcast. There are a few routes to doing this: a) film the recording of the podcast, b) pair the audio recording with an animated video, or c) publish the audio with a static background. Deciding on which method to use depends on your resources and your on-camera comfort, among other variables, but the end goal is the same: reach a wider audience.

#3 Ebook

Bundle a few related podcast episodes into an ebook that can be used as a giveaway or lead magnet to build your audience and email list. A single episode is typically not long enough to convert into an ebook but take a look at your most popular episodes or your more informative episodes. If your podcast sticks to an overarching theme, then it’s highly likely that you’ll be able to stitch a few episodes into a comprehensive ebook or guide.

#4 Email Newsletter

Most people shoot off a quick email with show notes whenever a new episode goes live. Double-down on your efforts by sending out a long-form email a few days later based on your latest episode. Similar to creating the blog post, start with a transcript, pull out key themes, and rework the best bits and pieces to create stand-alone content that your audience will actually enjoy reading.

#5 Infographic

Create a visual of the podcast episode by turning it into an infographic. There are a few routes you can take depending on the episode. Visually share the stories offered in each episode or create a compilation of quotes arranged in a scroll-stopping graphic. Another option is to create checklists or flyer-style infographics to communicate important lessons, tips or other essential information.

** Bonus points for creating a few versions that can be shared across social media, your email newsletter, and your blog.

#6 Social Media Captions

Speaking of social media, after you’ve alerted your audience to your new episode, reuse this high-value content your creating across your social media channels. Share messages and lessons in long captions and key takeaways in shorter captions. Create additional graphics featuring a mix of quotes and tips, plus publish audio clips from the original episode.

One last tip…

Keep in mind that the way we read is VERY different from how we listen. Our brains process information completely differently when switching between auditory content and visual content and it’s critical that your written content reflects that.

Plus, no one wants to read a wall of text that you just copy/paste from a transcript that’s full of misspellings and filler words (no thanks!).

Repurposing your podcast episodes into blog posts and other forms of written content is a smart, efficient way to add more variety to your marketing so you can reach a wider audience. Start by picking 1-2 extra types of content to create and grow from there!
